iGRASP seed , the launch of an international graduate school of protein science and technology, now offers up to 20 scholarship projects at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the co-operating Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH in Germany. Scholarships will start in June 2012 with funding of 1400 Euro per month for 3 years. The novel graduate school iGRASPseed stands for innovative and all-embracing doctoral education and research in the wide field of protein science and technology. Within a very stimulating and tight network all projects include aspects of biotechnology, structural biology, and beyond. Highly motivated and excellent young scientists holding a recent MSc, MA, Magister, or German Diploma degree (5 years of university education) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines can now apply for one of the scholarships chosen out of the research projects described in detail on our website: www.iGRASP.de. The multifarious topics include inter alia: structure-function characterization of various metabolic enzymes, chaperones, or proteins linked to human diseases, optimization and application of biocatalysts, photoreceptor systems, substrate recognition processes. Currently open projects are e.g.: 03: Tailoring noncovalent interaction networks to modulate protein stability, dynamics, and selectivity 04: Structural and functional analysis of PPDK 05: Structural Characterisation of membrane-reconstituted sensor kinases by solid-state NMR spectroscopy 06: Foldase-assisted folding and secretion of lipases from Pseudomonas aeruginosa 14: Enoate-Reductases for the Synthesis of 1,3-Amino Alcohols and ß-Amino Acids 15: Molecular functionalities of ADEP-insensitive ClpP proteins 16: Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of specific rhomboid inhibitors For further information on the program, all possible doctoral (PhD) research projects, prerequisites and the application instructions please visit our homepage: www.iGRASP.de New projects are currently announced, so please check our homepage frequently. Although there is no strict application deadline, application in May is recommended.
