The Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) aims for excellence in horticultural research and related plant and environmental sciences. The IGZ has sites in Großbeeren (close to Berlin) and Erfurt, and is a member of the Leibniz Association (WGL). IGZ conducts internationally oriented, strategic research for sustainable production of vegetables and ornamentals, contributing to the conservation of natural resources.
Our group “Adventitious Root Formation” has continuous expertise in research with focus on molecular and physiological processes and environmental factors controlling adventitious root (AR) formation in cuttings.
We are looking for a

Post doc Scientist
Reference number: 04/2014/PV Erf.
(wage group TV-L, salary domain Ost, EG 13, for two years)
to work in Erfurt within the project "Molecular and physiological regulation of adventitious root formation in Petunia cuttings in response to nitrogen preconditioning and dark exposure” which is partially funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and carried out in close collaboration with the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Gatersleben.
Based on recent findings of our group on the roles of auxin homeostasis and signalling in AR formation in cuttings, the current project follows the hypothesis that a changed nitrogen remobilization within the cutting and auxin action contribute to improved AR formation in response to enhanced nitrogen supply to the donor plants and to dark incubation of cuttings. Interactions between auxin and wound responsive jasmonic acid should also be considered in the investigations. These involve analyses of the transcriptome via microarray and RT-PCR, nitrogen compounds especially amino acids and relevant enzymes, and plant hormones using GC- and LC-MS/MS analysis and reporter gene constructs, which will be combined with pharmacological approaches.
