An accumulation of adipose tissue mass leads to obesity which is often associated with secondary metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. One major focus of our group is the identification and characterization of regulators of adipose tissue development and obesity. Using the zebrafish as a model organism, we identified Tmem18 as a potential regulator of adipogenesis in vivo.
We currently offer a lab project for a
Master’s/Diploma Thesis
The aim of this project is to design and characterize plasmid constructs for stable overexpression and knockdown of Tmem18 which shall be used for the generation of transgenic zebrafish lines. These lines will enable us to further investigate the function of Tmem18 during obesity development.
We offer the opportunity to extend your knowledge in a broad range of methodologies (cell culture methods, cloning techniques, zebrafish model, gene expression analysis, fluorescence microscopy) in a stimulating research environment with state-of-the-art equipment.
We expect:
  • M.Sc. student in Biology, Biochemistry, Nutrition Science, or related discipline
  • Basic knowledge in cell biology and molecular biology
  • Enthusiam for laboratory work in a biomedical background
  • Scientific interest.
