Microbiologist

You are doing:
Join our scientific team in a key position and be responsible for the isolation of microorganisms from environmental samples. You will work in a team to identify and develop enzymes and antimicrobial substances with potential for application in industrial biotechnology, medicine and plant protection.

You are responsible for the isolation of novel microorganisms from a variety of environmental resources, such as insects or soil samples. The cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms their identification and the characterization of secondary metabolites are other elements of your work. The publication of results and the supervision of doctoral students are also in your responsibility.


What we expect from you 
  • You have successfully completed your studies with a PhD degree in the areas of biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or a comparable field
  • You have a good laboratory experience in the isolation and cultivation of microorganisms (bacteria and fungi, aerobic and anaerobic) as well as in the identification of microorganisms
  • You have a strong background in analysis of secondary metabolites by conventional chromatographic methods
  • You are an independent worker, analytical thinker and have a high degree of creativity
  • A good publication record is as self-evident as a very good knowledge of English, German is a plus
  • You like to work in a multicultural, highly motivated team and are characterized by your communication skills
  • You are enjoying the supervision of doctoral students and students What you can expect from us The Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME practice applied life sciences from molecule to ecosystem.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited until 31.12.2016.
In case of identical qualifications, preference will be given to severely disabled candidates.
