Project Leader (m/f)

Affimed is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing highly targeted cancer immunotherapies. We have generated a diverse pipeline of product candidates from three proprietary next-generation antibody-engineering technologies, which represents an innovative approach to cancer treatment that seeks to harness the body’s own immune defenses to fight tumor cells. The company listed on NASDAQ in September 2014 and executed a follow-on financing in May 2015. The proceeds are expected to support continued clinical development therapeutics for Hodgkin Lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and solid tumors. Affimed is expected to enhance its T- and NK-cell platforms, including the proprietary trispecific antibodies for dual targeting of tumors.
Within our research department we are now seeking a
Project Leader (m/f)
who will lead all scientific research activities of the Company to drive advancement of novel biologics in immuno-oncology.

  • Lead individual research projects from inception to execution
  • Screen project opportunities that enhance Affimed’s immune cell engager platforms and applications
  • Liaise with research groups and project management to implement and execute individual research projects
  • Provide scientific oversight to cross-functional project teams focused on the research and development of Affimed’s proprietary immune cell engager platforms
  • Develop and execute scientific strategies for the elucidation of mechanism of action, mechanism of resistance and intelligent combination agents
  • Provide input to the team responsible for evaluation of novel disease targets for application with Affimed’s immune cell engager platforms
  • Design and implement suitable in vitro and in vivo approaches to advance Affimed’s pipeline
  • Initiate and execute suitable research collaborations with key stakeholders
  • Support international collaborations with pharma or academic partners
  • Follow international research developments and adapt to internal activities

Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • At least 10+ years industrial research experience
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of biologics drug development; experience with fragment-based antibodies is preferred
  • Ability to conduct multiple projects in a dynamic environment while delivering agreed milestones and adhering to timelines
  • Ability to prioritize and structure all research activities towards the needs for clinical development process and drug approval
  • Experience in immunotherapy
  • Deep understanding of immuno-biology and basic understanding of clinical development
  • Understanding of and adherence to research budgets
  • Team leadership skills and a team-player disposition
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence and lead
  • Strong and proven leadership capabilities and proven supervisory and managerial skills are essential: self-motivation, enthusiasm and ability to interact within a multi-disciplinary environment with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong leader with a passionate, inclusive, open-minded, collaborative and forward-thinking approach
  • Goal-oriented approach, with a track record of driving the most complex programs through multiple challenges
  • Demonstrable ability to work proactively and independently, tenacious when necessary
  • High intellect, hard-working and ambitious individual with a commitment to make a significant contribution to new therapies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders

Appropriate qualifications in the life sciences that will have included a second or advanced degree.
