within the framework of the Horizon 2020 Marie Curie European Training Network (ETN) HaemMetabolome

Project 9: Hypoxia-induced metabolic shifts in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

starting from September 2016 but not later than December 2016 with a secondment at the University of Barcelona, Spain
 
The aim of HaemMetabolome is to take the next steps to understand the cell biological consequences of the genetic alterations that occur in the cells of several acute haematological malignancies (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) and multiple myeloma) and understand how these can be used to improve treatment options. Resistance to existing therapies is frequently observed for these diseases, and they remain incurable for the majority of cases. HaemMetabolome will provide research training in the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of these cancers. The project 9 (ESR 10) will involve the use of a wide range of experimental techniques including molecular biological (Western blot, RT-PCR), cell biological (CRISPR/Cas9, SILAC) and in vitro assays (SeaHorse measurements, NMR) and research using various AML mouse models.
HaemMetabolome has 10 Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher Fellowships funded, as part of the Initial Training Network - European Joint Doctorate scheme. Researchers employed on one of these Fellowships will be enrolled for 3 years on a dual PhD programme between two of the HaemMetabolome partners, spending part of their fellowships working at both partners.

For the mentioned project the candidate will be trained approx. 24 month at the Goethe-University Frankfurt in Germany (Prof. Hubert Serve) with secondment (up to 12 month) at the University of Barcelona (Prof. Marta Cascante).

Benefits: Candidates are paid according to Marie Curie standards, providing a generous employment contract along with further support for research, training and career development. Fellowships for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) are fundable for up to three-year periods.
 
Requirements: Outstanding ESRs must fulfil the Marie Curie eligibility criteria. ESRs are required to have obtained a Master`s degree in biology, biochemistry or life sciences within the last 4 years. They must also not be resided in Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years. Please visit the Marie Curie Web site for more details. For citizens from non-EU countries specific immigration formalities and rules are in place. Equal consideration will be given to female and male applicants. We are seeking an ambitious, highly qualified and motivated student with a strong interest in biomedical research. We expect the successful candidate to demonstrate prior knowledge and experience of the aforementioned techniques. The ability to both work independently and to contribute effectively to group projects, as well as an excellent command of IT and of the English language are part of the basic prerequisites.
