Job description
The ability of cells to polarize underlies the most basic biological functions such as motility and response to external challenges, but also the formation and maintenance of tissues within a multicellular organism. The importance of cell polarity is underscored by the fact that cell polarity is essential for animal development and is perturbed in disease states such as cancer.
As part of PolarNet, 1 PhD position is available in the group of Dr. Paul van Bergen en Henegouwen at the Utrecht University in The Netherlands in collaboration with U-Protein Express BV (Dr. Martin Hessing). The research will focus on the characterization of molecular complexes involved in the attachment of astral microcrotubules in mammalian epithelial cells.
More about the function

  • Training in state-of-the-art technologies including nanobody and nanodisc technology in combination with super-resolution light microscopy of 3D cell cultures.
  • Scientific courses, conferences and summer schools, transferable skills training (writing, presenting, intellectual property), and personal development workshops and coaching;
  • High standards of training and supervision, which includes establishment of a ‘Training and Supervision Agreement’ and yearly progress meetings;
