PhD position in cell biology/immunology studying Chlamydia infection, Freiburg, Germany

The position of a PhD student is available at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene, University Medical Center Freiburg, Freiburg i. Br. (group Prof. Georg Häcker The position is funded for three years by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft through the Priority Programme Innate Lymphoid Cells. The project will investigate the response and role of innate lymphoid cells (ILC) during the genital infection of female mice with the bacterium Chlamydia muridarum (the mouse mode of human female infection with Chlamydia trachomatis). The goals are to understand activation, response and activity of ILC during infection, as well as their contribution to response of myeloid and lymphoid cells, to bacterial control, tissue damage and immunity to Chlamydia. The project will use infection experiments in mice, perform high-resolution analysis of ILC-populations and profile their activation requirements and functional capacity. In various gene-modified mice the roles of individual ILC-populations will be investigated. Our laboratory studies the response of tissue and immune cells to infection, using approaches from cell biology, microbiology and immunology. Freiburg has a lively immunology community with numerous options for scientific interaction. The DFG Priority Programme is a body of about 15 groups countrywide, who work on various aspects of ILC-biology and conduct meetings for scientific exchange. We look forward to receiving applications of qualified colleagues to
