The binational Helmholtz Research School “Frontiers in Cell Signaling and Gene Regulation” (SignGene) is a joint PhD program between Berlin in Germany and Haifa and Jerusalem in Israel. Our research focuses on unraveling the mechanisms that govern the development and physiological functions of normal cells with the goal to understand the pathological processes underlying diseases such as cancer. Lively interactions across our network of world-leading scientists and vivid scientific collaborations across borders make SignGene an exceptional international experience for PhD students.

SignGene offers
  • 3-year advanced training in the fields of cell signaling, gene regulation and quantitative biology, including bioengineering and biophysics
  • Exciting research projects and dual mentoring by a pair of collaborating senior scientists from Israel and Germany
  • Prolonged exchange visits in a partnering laboratory in Berlin
  • Annual scientific symposia and winter schools alternating between Germany and Israel
  • Transferable skills courses to support personal career development
