3 year PhD student position (TV-L E13/50-65%)

A PhD student position in frame of the DFG priority program "Nucleotide second messenger signalling in bacteria" is available in the lab of  Prof. Annegret Wilde at the Institute of Biology III, University of Freiburg.
The project on "A light-triggered behavioral switch in cyanobacterial motility" is available from October 2016.
The general goal of this PhD project is to uncover the function of the four-color photoreceptor Cph2 in regulating motility in cyanobacteria. The sensory domains of Cph2 transfer information about the light quality to the downstream c-di-GMP producing or degrading modules, thereby regulating motility of the cells. The PhD student will analyze how the different light signals are integrated by Cph2 and on the mechanism of c-di-GMP signaling in the cell as the basis of light-dependent decision-making.
The ideal candidate has an excellent Master`s or Diploma degree with focus on molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry. Profound knowledge or interest in photobiology and bioinformatics are highly welcome. The project involves intense collaboration within the priority program and with international collaboration partners.
