The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB):
Doctoral candidate (PhD student) in Molecular and Functional Neurobiology (m/f)
  • 14 month initial contract, extendable to 36 month, full-time (40h/week)
  • Student status (start date: as soon as possible)

    Research area:
    Investigation of the involvement of the mitochondrial genome in the pathogenesis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease using stem cell-derived cellular models
    Your tasks/mission:
  • Generation/maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells and subsequent differentiation into dopaminergic neurons
  • Establishment and application of assays to assess mitochondrial DNA integrity, respiratory chainfunction and mitochondrial dynamics
  • Use of single-cell analysis approaches
  • Application and development of quantitative microscopy imaging techniques
Your profile:  
  • A Master degree or equivalent in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or related discipline
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research and cellular models of neurodegeneration
  • Profound knowledge of molecular genetics, biochemistry and cell biology
  • Expertise with inducible pluripotent stem cell technology desirable
  • Excellent communication, team-working and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm and great commitment to research
  • Very good command of the English language
