Doctoral Fellowship (m/f) Computational Biomolecular Modeling

The Research Group Bioinformatics and Computational Biophysics, Faculty of Biology, U Duisburg-Essen, Germany, invites applications for a Doctoral Fellowship (Doktorandenstipendium).

We (http://www.uni-due.de/bioinformatik) study with computational and theoretical methods molecular aspects of life. The group is associated with the Center for Medical Biotechnology (http://www.uni-due.de/zmb), the Center of Water- and Environmental Research (http://www.uni-due.de/zwu), and the Center for Computational Sciences and Simulation (http://www.uni-due.de/ccss). The group works on persistent viral infections as a member of the transregional collaborative research centre TRR60 (http://www.uni-due.de/trr60/), and on supramolecular chemistry on proteins in the collaborative research centre CRC 1093 (http://www.uni-due.de/crc1093/).

The Doctoral Fellow will model and analyze biomolecular and supramolecular systems (such as protein-polymer complexes), including their structures, dynamics, and interactions using computational methods, e.g. molecular dynamics simulation. She/he will also develop new tools and extend existing computational methods for high-throughput molecular modeling. The interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of the project requires the following competences:
  • excellent knowledge in one or more of the disciplines physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and statistics
  • strong ability for scientific problem solving, and proven track record in programming in languages relevant to the given scientific area
  • working experience with molecular modeling methods (e.g. molecular dynamics simulation) and good knowledge of the underlying theory
  • at least basic knowledge in molecular branches of biology (molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry or similar)
  • very good team working and communication skills, including also communication in English (written and spoken)
The successful applicant will receive a PhD stipend for up to three years. Extension possible.
