Doctoral position to study mechanisms involved in bacterium-host interaction in uropathogenic Escherichia coli
Ref. 11501

Salary according to TV-L E13 65 %
Part-Time (65 %)

Our group focuses on the characterization of virulence- and fitness traits of uropathogenic Escherichia coli . We employ comparative and functional genomic-based approaches as well as cell culture-based infection models for the characterization of pathogen-host interaction.

The successful applicant will investigate E. coli factors involved in bacterial fitness in the urinary tract. The characterization of bacterial outer membrane vesicle (OMV) formation and its impact on host cell functions will be investigated as well as other bacterial adaptation strategies leading to enhanced fitness and competitiveness in the urinary tract.

The applicant should have a M.Sc./Diploma and a strong background either in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or infection biology. In addition, basic knowledge in bioinformatics and interest in bacterial pathogenesis is beneficial.

The position is available from October 2016, for 3 years initially, with the possibility of extension. Deadline for applications is August 31st, 2016.
