The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB):
Laboratory technician (m/f)
  • Fixed-term contract 24 month, 40h/week

Research area:
The role of mitochondrial genome abnormalities in the pathogenesis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease
Your role:
The applicant will be a member of the recently established Molecular and Functional Neurobiology group (Head: Prof. Dr. Anne Grünewald) which has a research focus on Parkinson’s disease (PD). He/she will be in charge of cell culture. This includes patient-derived fibroblasts, inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and their differentiation into neurons. Additionally, he/she will be involved in pathology studies of human post-mortem brain tissue. The applicant will also be responsible for general maintenance-related tasks in the laboratory.   
Your tasks:
  • Cell culture (cell lines, primary cells, iPSC maintenance and differentiation)
  • RNA/DNA extraction
  • Real-time PCR, sequencing, cloning of plasmids and viral constructs
  • Tissue sectioning, (immuno-)histochemistry
  • Standard biochemical (Bradford, ELISA, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry) and mitochondrial function (Seahorse technology, colorimetric dyes, enzyme kinetics with spectrophotometry etc.) assays
  • Contribution to general laboratory organisation (ordering, overseeing of stocks, storage, preparation of solutions etc.)
Your profile:
  • A technical degree or equivalent in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biology or similar
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good computer skills for standard software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Flexible regarding research stays in collaborators’ research laboratories
  • Good working knowledge of English
