At the Institute of Virology and Cell Biology of the University of Lübeck (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. N. Tautz) is in the research group of Prof. Dr. Stefan Taube a
 
PhD position (f/m)
 
available immediately for the duration of 3 years. Topic of the project which is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungs-gemeinschaft, DFG) is the role of glycans in norovirus infection. A long-term goal is to understand the basic mechanisms of virus-glycan binding to establish these interactions as a potential target for antiviral intervention. Our laboratory has experience in human and murine norovirus infection systems, carbohydrate receptor interactionsand protein structure analysis.
 
 
We offer an interesting, interdisciplinary research topic with biomedical relevance in an interactive scientific environment, including collaborations with national and international partners, at an international level. The project is part of the DFG research group “Glycans: Controlling of Non-Enveloped Virus Infections”  (FOR2327 "VIROCARB") and provides an excellent environment for collaboration with other students and group leaders (For details, please see http://www.virocarb.de for details).
 
 
We are looking for a highly motivated person who likes to become part of our young team that shares our passion for science and research and is aspiring new scientific challenges.
 
Formal requirements are a university degree, majoring in Molecular Biology, Molecular Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology/ Virology or a related field. The ability for independent work in a team as well as a high level of commitment is expected from the successful candidate. Detailed knowledge in molecular  biological techniques is required. Experience in the cultivation of eukaryotic cells, virus propagation and titration, protein expression, and small animal models are beneficial.
 
The salary is in accordance with the tariff in the public sector and upon fulfillment of agreed conditions the grouping will be in the salary group E13 TV-L. A final job evaluation is reserved.
