PhD Position in Host-Microbiota Research

The Department of Nutrigenomics at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany is recruiting a PhD student to work in the field of Host-Microbiota Research in the laboratory of Prof. W. Florian Fricke. The position is available from Oct. 2016 for three years.

The research interest of the Department is to study mechanisms involved in host-microbiota interactions with relevance for human health, using both experimental laboratory and (meta-)genomic sequencing-based bioinformatic approaches. The long-term goal of this research is to identify functionally relevant microbiota parameters with potential future application as diagnostic biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

The objective of the present project is to experimentally verify sequence-based bioinformatic predictions about the immune modulatory potential of different genomic and metagenomic samples from the human microbiota. As part of this project, the successful applicant will focus on the application of molecular analyses using in vitro and in vivo immune assays but also be involved in genomic/bioinformatic project components.

The successful applicant will hold a master's degree or equivalent qualification in immunology, biology or a related discipline and should have a strong background and interest in immunology, cell biology, microbiology and/or genomics. Basic experimental research experience in the fields of molecular biology, immunology or biochemistry is required. A high level of motivation for scientific work as well as good English speaking and writing skills are expected.

Written applications, including motivation letter, current CV, copies of academic certificates and the names of at least two professional referees, should be emailed as a single PDF document to w.florian.fricke@uni-hohenheim.de before Sept. 30th, 2016.
