The research group of Prof. Dr. Knut Drescher at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany, is looking for
PhD students
in microbiology, immunology, or infection biology,

(reference: miibio16)
to start in the autumn/winter of 2016 or in early 2017. PhD students in the group enjoy excellent working conditions in a highly international and friendly research environment.

The research will focus on understanding how and why pathogenic bacteria form multicellular communities known as “biofilms”, and how cells disperse from these biofilms. The research will use state-of-the-art methods from molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and biophysics. Experience in microbiology or eukaryotic cell culture is required to apply for these positions. The particular direction of the PhD projects will depend on the skills and interests of the PhD students. However, all PhD projects will extensively use fluorescence microscopy.

More details about the research group of Prof. Dr. Knut Drescher can be found at http://drescherlab.org

Successful applicants for the PhD positions will also become members of the International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular and Molecular Microbiology (IMPRS-MIC; http://www.imprs-microbiology.mpg.de).

The Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the neighboring Philipps University of Marburg form one of the largest clusters of microbiology research in Europe and offer a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with facilities for genomics, proteomics, robotics, fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.

As an equal opportunity employer, the Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities. We therefore actively encourage individuals with disabilities to apply.
