The laboratory of Dr. Heike Heuer at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine in Düsseldorf is looking for a highly motivated

PhD student (f/m)

to join our team.

The main focus of the Heuer group is to determine the (patho-) physiological functions of thyroid hormone (TH) transporters during development and aging. For that purpose, we analyze mouse models that are deficient in specific thyroid hormone transporters in certain cell types or tissues. By exploiting in vitro as well as in vivo approaches, we further aim to identify chemicals that exert neurotoxic actions by blocking TH transport into the brain. For these studies, we apply a variety of techniques such as in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and primary cell cultures.

Candidates should hold a diploma/master in a relevant life sciences discipline (such as neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine) have good organizational skills and should be fluent in English. You are a goal-oriented team and willing to work with mice. Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, mammalian cell culture and a thorough knowledge of physiology are advantageous.

The position is embedded within the DFG Priority Program "Thyroid Trans Act" (SPP1629) and will be funded for three years. The salary is according to TV-L (E13, 50 %). Females are especially encouraged to apply, and in the case of equal qualification, handicapped persons will be given preference. The IUF is committed to family-friendly working conditions and equal gender policy.

Please submit your application by e-mail as one pdf-file combining relevant documents (letter of motivation, CV, university certificates, and contact of two referees) by October 25th, 2015 to:
