The Department of Physical Biochemistry (Director: Prof. Marina Rodnina) at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry invites applications for a

Postdoc Position

in the area of
“Single-molecule Biophysics”
(Code Number 12-16)

Our Department studies mechanisms of protein synthesis and folding on the ribosome (for more information, refer to recent publications in Nat Struct Mol Biol (2016), 23:342-348, Science (2015) 350:1104-1107; J Am Chem Soc (2015) 137:12997-3006; Nat Commun (2015) 6:7442). We employ a wide range of techniques such as in vitro translation, fluorescence methods ensemble kinetics, single-molecule TIRF, and mass spectrometry.

The successful applicant must have a strong expertise in fluorescence and single-molecule techniques, with the emphasis on TIRF and FCS, and have proven experience in working with biological macromolecules. She/he will join projects/develop their own projects in the field of single-molecule biophysics of translation. The Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry provides an outstanding environment for cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research at the interface between biology, physics and chemistry. The working language is English.

We offer a 2-year contract with the possibility of an extension. The payment and benefits are based on the German TVöD guidelines.
