Postdoc position (Chemist)

The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute – (HKI, www.leibniz-hki.de) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. The Transfer Group Anti-infectives encourages talented and highly gifted candidates to apply for a

Postdoc position (Chemist)

starting from November for two years initially.
The successful candidate will work within the framework of a BMBF-funded collaborative research project (www.infectcontrol.de) on the early stage and preclinical development of novel antibiotic scaffolds.

Main topics of the project will include:
•   Bioanalytical method development (HPLC-MS)
•   Development of synthetic approaches (total synthesis and semisynthesis) for heterocyclic and peptide antibiotics
•   Analysis of structure-activity-relationships
•   Structure elucidation and characterization
•   Compound profiling (interpretation of in-vitro ADMET data and bioactivity)

Our requirements: You hold a PhD in organic or natural product chemistry and have profound expertise in modern and classical synthetic methods as well as modern analytical chemistry (NMR, MS, HPLC). Knowledge in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and/or peptides (SPPS) or natural products is highly beneficial. Experience in the isolation and structure elucidation of trace compounds and/or the handling of unstable organic substances would be highly appreciated. Basics in pharmacology and the interpretation of biological activities are a further plus. We would welcome a highly motivated co-worker with excellent communication skills and the ability to work on an interdisciplinary and very application-related project.

We offer you a challenging project which involves partners from several universities, clinics, companies and contract service providers. State-of-the-art instrumentation and laboratories as well as the collaborative and constructive atmosphere at the HKI provide ideal conditions to be highly target-oriented. As a postdoc you have access to the Graduate Academy of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena which offers an excellent qualification programme. You will be hosted in the Transfer Group Anti-infectives, a cross-sectional unit with a close linkage to the application and proof of novel therapeutic concepts.

Salary (full time) is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees). As an equal opportunity employer the HKI is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and therefore especially encourages them to apply.
