Postdoc position in computational biology/bioinformatics

The Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS) at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main offers a

Postdoc-position
(E13 TV-G-U)

The position is available from the 01.02.2016, initially for 1 year with the option of further extension

Applications are invited for a postdoc position in the laboratory of Dr. Kathi Zarnack. The successful applicant will contribute to internationally competitive research in the field of computational RNA biology with a particular focus on mRNA localisation and translational regulation. The project is part of the DFG-funded research program FOR2333 “Macromolecular complexes in mRNA translocation”. Our group develops and applies computational approaches to deduce transcript characteristics, RBP sequence preferences and functional interrelationships from a range of genome-wide experiments, such as iCLIP and RNA-seq. The postdoc will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists and will have access to high-quality first-hand datasets to pursue the research question.

You will
  • Study the mechanisms of mRNA localisation and translational regulation in different model organisms
  • Analyse and interpret genome-wide datasets for solving complex biological questions
  • Work in close cooperation with experimental researchers
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or related areas
  • Experience in analysing high-throughput functional genomics datasets such as RNA-seq, CLIP or ChIP-seq
  • General programming skills
  • Familiarity with analytic tools such as R or Matlab will be a plus
  • General biological background knowledge

We offer
  • A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
  • Working as part of a young and motivated team
  • The possibility to work with first-hand state-of-the-art datasets

To apply, please email a cover letter stating your research and career interests, your CV and contact addresses of at least two referees in a single PDF file to Dr. Kathi Zarnack (kathi.zarnack@bmls.de) until 19.01.2016.
