Postdoctoral research associate
in the Bacteriophage Group (led by Dr. Christine Rohde) within the Department of Microorganisms. Appointment will be for 24 months with a salary level at the German public pay scale of TV-L E 13. The position is offered full time and not suitable for part time work. Starting date will be January 2016.
The post-doctoral project is funded by the DBU, Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, Förderinitiative “Nachhaltige Pharmazie”, AZ 32726/01 and will focus on the reduction of the antibiotic drug load in poultry breeding via application of phages. The special bacterial target group will be Escherichia coli ESBL multi-drugresistant strains. In close cooperation with other highly experienced project partners who are involved, the most suitable phage candidates will be selected and biologically fully characterized for further on-site large scale application. Essential skills for the position are a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the field of microbiology, working knowledge of bacteriophages, phage and bacterial cultivation, and general microbiology techniques. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading cooperative, distributed projects, strong communication skills that will enable effective interaction with offsite partners within Germany, and strengths in goal-oriented project management. Additional desirable skills include experience with microbial genomics and/or direct experience with commercial applications projects and partners. Strong English skills are essential and knowledge of German would be a plus.
