We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with interest in the field of cancer to join the Institute of Radiation Therapy at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Medical School, with the purpose of completing a Ph.D degree (Dr.rer. nat.) or Dr. rer medic. Available projects are on exciting areas of investigation covering aspects of cellular responses to DNA damage. Searching for strategies to enhance chemo-radiosensitivity of lung carcinoma cell lines in a BMBF funded project in cooperation with the Institute for Medical Radiation Biology (Prof. Dr. G. Iliakis), Department of Safety and Radiation Protection, Forschungszentrum (Dr. Kriehuber) and Institute for Systems Biology & Bioinformatics, University of Rostock (Prof. Dr. Olaf Wolkenhauer), we address the biological consequences of DSBs of different levels of complexity, focusing on how complexity affects processing and the generation of processing-errors. In the specific project of the Department for Radiation Therapy (Prof. Dr. Stuschke) we aimed to evaluate the impact of cisplatin on IR induced checkpoint activation, choice of repair pathways, genomic instability, and radiosensitivity in non-small lung cancer cell lines. cycle regulation (checkpoint response), chromatin structure and its modification, epigenetics, apoptotic and mitotic cell death and DNA repair. Candidates should have a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related subject, and interest in research. Experience in cellular responses to DNA damage, or cell cycle regulation, are desirable. Compensation is through a fellowship. The University of Duisburg-Essen is an equal opportunity employer. Applications of women are appreciated. In cases of similar qualification, competence and specific achievements women will be considered in equal terms within the legal framework. Handicapped candidates with equal qualification will be given preference. Please send applications to Dr. Ali Sak, e-mail: email@example.com.
