The Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg seeks to recruit a
                                   Scientific coordinator (m/f)
For this position we seek to appoint a highly motivated, service-oriented, pro-active and collaborative person with training in natural science. Previous experience from working in academic/research management is essential. The jobholder will work directly with the managing director to support the institute’s management, organization and communication.
Your responsibilities:
  • Administrative and organizational support for the managing director
  • Preparation and organization of the meetings of the board of directors
  • Preparation and organization of the meetings of the Scientific Advisory Board and the Kuratorium
  • Implementation of decisions made by the board of directors in the areas of central facilities and public relations
  • Assisting and advising the board of directors in planning of future developments
  • Serve as interface between the departments and central facilities.
  • Organization of events at the institute
  • Coordination and administration of third-party funds
  • Coordination and organization of public relations and outreach
Your qualifications:
  • PhD degree in natural science and preferably in an field directly related to the research at the institute
  • Professional experience in academic/research management
  • Several years of work experience in a academic/research institution with management experience
  • Experience in public relations work and public outreach is desirable
  • Ability to effectively present information both orally and in writing is required
  • Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to adapt and adjust to changing work situations and assignments is required
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and with high level of self-motivation is essential.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and German is essential.
The institute consists of four departments, several department-independent research groups, a central administration and a substantial scientific infrastructure organized in central facilities. Currently 280 people scientist, students, technical staff and administrative staff work at the institute.
The position is at level E 13/14 on the TVöD scale. The position is initially limited to two years but can be extended depending on performance.
