The Department of Neurology, Heinrich-Heine University Duesseldorf, Germany, offers a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) position. The position is founded for three years by and embedded in the DFG (german research foundation) priority program 1927 „FeS for life“, providing the final approval of the program by the senate of the
DFG. The priority program guarantees visits of national and international meetings, summer schools, lab rotations, and a variety of collaborations and available techniques. The project of the requested PhD student is a joint project of the Universities Duesseldorf (Carsten Berndt) and Greifswald (Christopher Horst Lillig) dedicated to the diseases multiple sclerosis (Duesseldorf, in particular Duesseldorf MS Center, Prof. O. Aktas) and cardiac hypertrophy (Greifswald) meaning that parts of the PhD project will be performed in Greifswald. We are interested in the elucidation of the role of FeS-cluster coordinating glutaredoxins, small oxidoreductases, in iron homeostasis during progression and  regeneration of the mentioned diseases. To fulfil this aim, the PhD student will use a great variety of methods including biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, and animal disease models.
We are loocking for highly motivated candidates with documented experience in scientific work  interested in this new research field and in the implementation of new techniques. Prerequisite is a diploma/Master in natural science.
