The Division of Molecular and Experimental Surgery is announcing an open

PhD student position
within the DFG-research unit FOR 2438
“Cell plasticity in colorectal carcinogenesis”

starting from October 1st, 2016

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the major death-causing cancers worldwide. Exploiting cellular memory processes of endothelial cells in response to the tumor microenvironment (TME) we detected new vascular-derived factors regulating the pathogenesis of CRC. Within the project the structure-function relation of these factors in the inhibition of tumorigenesis and the regulation of blood vessel homeostasis will be investigated. This will provide new insights into the functional role of TME-associated blood vessel plasticity in CRC with the long-term objective to exploit respective mechanisms for the development of novel therapies.
Advanced cell and molecular biological methods as well as animal experimentation will be part of the project. The project is embedded in the new DFG-funded research unit FOR 2438. PhD students will be associated with the graduate school of the IZKF Erlangen, providing a structured education program.
