The Bioinformatics team at the DKMS Life Science Lab works at the interface of complex data analysis, algorithm development and software development to support the HLA genotyping workflow. With advancing technologies and rapidly growing data volumes we engineer robust software for routine deployment on high throughput computing environments.
Since 2013 our lab performs genotyping of HLA markers using Illumina's NGS platforms in combination with in-house developed reagents and internally developed software for data analysis. Besides large-scale routine typing operations our lab has always been pioneering the application of novel technologies. We are engaged in actively exploring the potential of cutting edge NGS technologies (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore) for HLA typing. We continuously work on including further transplantation-relevant genetic markers (e.g., KIR, ABO) in our upfront donor typing profile, we characterise novel HLA alleles, and collaborate on scientific projects that support our fight against blood cancer.
