Laboratory Head Fungal Biologics Wismar Site (m/f)

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Bayer CropScience Biologics GmbH develops, produces and markets biological products, processes and services for integrated crop protection and has developed a unique technology for the mass production of filamentous fungi. For our fungal product research unit based in Wismar we are looking for a scientist (m/f) with an innovative spirit and willingness to undertake challenging scientific tasks. In detail you:
  • Establish a technology platform to systematically improve the efficacy rate of fungal biologics in the field
  • Identify key biomarkers that predict the success of fungal biologics with regard to potency, shelf-life, speed of action, independence from environmental conditions and persistence in the field
  • Check transferability between biomarkers and in vivo performance
  • Build an early screening platform to find optimal strain candidates faster, easier and cheaper and to be able to pre-screen larger strain collections
  • Establish assays to quantify relevant biomarkers
  • Develop test systems to simulate environmental stresses as part of the screening cascade
  • Optimize economically interesting strain candidates with regard to success factors

WHO YOU ARE

  • PhD in biology with experience in fungal microbiology and fungal genetics ideally in the field of agriculture
  • PostDoc or professional project leadership experience preferably in an industrial environment
  • Technical experience with state of the art microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • Ability to effectively challenge the status quo and underlying assumptions to uncover fresh innovations, with the ability to drive ideas into results
  • Ability to make activities visible and to drive projects forward
  • Ability to build constructive and co-operative relationships worldwide with other colleagues within Bayer CropScience
  • Ability to initiate improvements in working practice and to evaluate new procedures and ways of collaboration
  • Very good leadership and project management skills, including cross-functional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English and German, both oral and written
