Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate (Postdoc) in accordance with § 28 (2) of Hamburg's Higher Education Act (HmbHG*). The position commences on August 1 st 2015.
It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with § 28 (2) of Hamburg's Higher Education Act (HmbHG).
The position is full-time and comprises 39 hours per week (40 for civil servants).
The short-term nature of this contract is based upon § 2 of the Academic Short-Term Labor Contract Act (WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years. The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate's achievements during the first stage.

Tasks: Duties include academic services in the respective department or institute. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate's own academic work.
Area(s) of Responsibility: The research associate shall investigate important aspects of plant infection and peroxisome biology including peroxisome biogenesis and degradation. The function of novel peroxisomal proteins in pathogen defence shall be investigated by a broad set of methodologies including expression analysis (real-time PCR), microscopy (fluorescence and confocal microscopy), reverse genetics and structural biology. Active participation in the establishment of super-resolution microscopy is expected. The tasks of the research associate include participation in teaching in the department of 4 semester hours per week in the first 3 years.
Requirements: A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. A M. Sc. and PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a closely related subject are prerequisite for employment. Experience in Arabidopsis growth and analyses, bacterial pathogen assays, microscopy (epifluorescence and confocal), transient and stable protein expression in plants and bacteria as well as good theoretical and practical knowledge in molecular biology, bioinformatics, microscopy and molecular genetics are advantageous.
