PhD and Postdoc Positions for Research on Bacterial Biofilms

Diese Stellenanzeige ist abgelaufen. Finden Sie hier zahlreiche ähnliche Jobs.

The Max Planck Research Group of Knut Drescher is looking for PhD students and postdocs, to start in the fall or winter of 2014. The lab is located at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany.

The research will focus on understanding how and why bacteria form multicellular communities known as “biofilms”, using approaches from biophysics, molecular biology, and ecology. Biofilms are inherently resistant to antibiotics and cells within biofilms display cellular differentiation akin to development in eukaryotic systems. How these effects arise in biofilms is largely unclear. The particular projects can either be more molecular/biological or more biophysical, and either more experimental or theoretical, depending on the interests of the student/postdoc. Some experience in either biology or physics/engineering/mathematics is expected. Additional experience with microscopy, molecular biology techniques, biophysics, fluid mechanics, image processing, or mathematical modeling would be beneficial.
