The Plant Energy Biology Group & the Department Chemical Signalling at the Agricultural Faculty of Bonn University invite applications for a

Postdoc position

The goal of the 1-year project will be to develop a system for
Redox sensing and engineering for optimisation of biocatalysis

A novel fluorescent protein probe and state-of-the-art in vivo sensing will be developed to monitor metabolic redox dynamics in the plant pathogen Ustilago maydis. The fungal microbe will serve as a model for the biotechnological generation of platform chemicals. The research will be closely coordinated with our project partner at the RWTH Aachen who will focus on engineering Ustilago metabolism. For further background and prior examples work with similar sensor tools see: Houa J, et al. (2009) Metabolic Engineering 11 (4-5): 253-261; Schwarzländer M, et al. (2014) Nature. 514: E12-E14; Schwarzländer M & Finkemeier I (2013) Antiox Redox Signal. 18(16): 2122-2144, or contact us directly by email (markus.schwarzlander@uni-bonn.de).
We offer an exciting and dynamic research environment, a friendly and experienced team with excellent international connections and dedicated training in the relevant techniques and skills to the highest standard. Salary and benefits are paid at TV-L 13 (German public services tariff).
We look for a highly motivated postdoc to drive the project. Strong expertise and independence in molecular cloning will be essential and enthusiasm for in vivo sensing, metabolism and microbial biotechnology will be beneficial. The applicant should hold a PhD in Biology or another relevant subject such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Physics. Excellent language skills in either English or German are required.
