Senior postdoc: Neurogenetics of speech evolution

Diese Stellenanzeige ist abgelaufen. Finden Sie hier zahlreiche ähnliche Jobs.

We are interested in the genetic basis of human speech and language evolution and study it using a mouse model humanized for the transcription factor Foxp2, the only single gene so far clearly linked to speech and language development in humans. These mice show enhanced reward-based learning and molecular, neurochemical and physiological changes specifically in cortico-basal ganglia circuits. The researcher will use inducible Cre driver lines to pinpoint the developmental and cellular origin of these effects with an emphasis on dopaminergic and medium spiny neurons. These studies will be complemented with RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and biochemical analyses to better understand the involved regulatory networks (see Enard et al Nature 2002, Cell, 2009; Curr Opin Neurobiol 2011).

Your profile
The candidate will have a PhD and ideally postdoc experience in neurobiology / neurogenetics and is experienced in managing mouse colonies and preparing and imaging mouse brains. Experience in the dopaminergic /cortico-striatal system is a plus. He/she should be willing to work independently, guide graduate and under-graduate students and to build up an own research profile.

Lab and Position
The position is in the group of Wolfgang Enard (Chair for Anthropology and Human Genetics) at the faculty of biology at the Biocenter. The lab is embedded in an excellent neuroscientific environment and we are part of the Munich Center for Neurosciences (MCN-LMU) and the Graduate School of Systemic Neuroscience (GSN-LMU). Besides studying the role of Foxp2, the lab is working on genomic wet-lab and computational technologies to study human brain evolution using iPS cells, RNA-Seq and single cell genomics. The position (A13, Akademischer Rat auf Zeit) is maximally for 6 years, but can be extended for another 4 years after qualifying for a professorship (habilitation). It comes with 5 SWS of teaching obligations. The position can start from 1st of October 2014. Please send your CV including a list of publications and two references / letters of recommendation as early as possible and not later than 30th of September.
The LMU is an equal opportunity employer. Preference will be given to suitably qualified female applicants or handicapped people, all other considerations being equal.
