Breloer Group "Helminth Immunology"
has a vacancy for a PhD position (Doktorandin/Doktorand)

One third of the world population is infected with parasitic helminths. Our focus is the interaction of pathogenic nematodes with their mammalian hosts. We employ the experimental models of murine Strongyloides ratti and Litomosoides sigmodontis infection to analyze the immune response to pathogenic nematodes. Within these models we describe modulation of the host immune response to bystander antigens and investigate the underlying mechanisms as described in our recent publications:

The research project will focus on the control and eradication of migrating parasitic nematode (Strongyloides and Litomosoides) larvae by innate effector cells such as mast cells, innate lymphoid cells and granulocytes. Methodology includes mouse infection experiments, and characterization of immune response by cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA and histology.
