Open PhD positions in radiation oncology

The University of Duisburg-Essen is one of the youngest universities in Germany and think in terms of possibilities, not limitations. In the heart of the Ruhrregion, we develop ideas of the future at our 11 faculties. We are strong in research and teaching, live diversity, support potential and are highly committed to an educational equality that has earned this name.

The University of Duisburg-Essen offers within the
DFG-funded Research Training Group 1739 (GRK1739)
11 PhD positions (f/m)
(9 PhD, 2 MD/PhD)
(salary according TV-L E13 65% for PhDs, 100% for MD / PhDs)

The GRK1739 “Molecular determinants of the cellular radiation response and their potential for response modulation” offers outstanding interdisciplinary scientific training and research opportunities for graduates of life sciences and medicine with interest in basic and translational research. The research projects aim to achieve a better molecular understanding of key molecules that determine the cellular response to ionizing radiation and thus radiation sensitivity with the goal of providing a scientific basis for effective response modulation. Furthermore, the programme provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary training in radiation biology and oncology, molecular and cell biology, physiology, pharmacology, and experimental medicine. It will also cover complementary professional competencies, such as career planning, bioethics, scientific integrity, and presentation skills. Together with regular supervision and mentoring, this training will allow its graduates to efficiently develop into independent scientists with broad knowledge in biomedical sciences and specialized knowledge in radiation biology and radiation oncology.

Details about the research training group and the different projects can be found at: http://www.uni-due.de/med/forschung/grk1739/index.shtml

Applicants for PhD positions should hold a Master Degree or equivalent in e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Cell Biology. Applicants for MD/PhD positions should have completed their medical studies and have performed an excellent experimental MD thesis. Candidates are selected on the basis of excellent performance in their studies and their motivation. The positions will start in April 2015 for three years.

Please send the filled in application form (which can be found at: https://www.uni-due.de/med/forschung/grk1739/jobs.php) together with a cover letter, your CV and degree certificates as one pdf-file until October 30, 2014 to:
