The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB):
Ph.D student in Eco-Systems Biology (m/f)
  • Fixed-term contract 3 years, 40h/week, may be extended up to 4 years.
  • Employee status (start date: as soon as possible)

Area: Bioinformatic Analysis of Molecular Eco-Systems Biology Data from Microbial Acidophilic Biofilm Communities.
  • Involvement in the isolation of biomolecular fractions (DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites) from microbial biofilms and their high-throughput analysis.
  • Implementation (and potentially development) of tools for the integration and analysis of (meta)-genomic, (meta)-transcriptomic, (meta)-proteomic, and metabolomic data.
  • Modeling of biological networks, learning models (parameters and structure) from data, and multi-scale modeling.
  • Interaction with other members of the project consortium and the ERASysAPP DMMcore for support (
  • A Master degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Microbiology, Microbial Ecology or related disciplines.
  • Solid experience in at least one computer programming or scripting language (Perl, Ruby, Matlab, Java, R, etc.).
  • A good working knowledge of basic statistical concepts.
  • Previous experience in bioinformatic analysis of Systems Biology datasets and modeling will be considered assets.
  • Excellent working knowledge of English.
  • Exciting interdisciplinary ERASysAPP research project for Systems Biology Applications (
