PhD position - Immunology

Diese Stellenanzeige ist abgelaufen. Finden Sie hier zahlreiche ähnliche Jobs.

A PhD position is available at the Institute of Molecular Psychiatry, University of Bonn Medical School, Germany.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate, interested in studying the involvement of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in Multiple sclerosis (MS) and in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), which is the accepted model of MS in animals.
The ECS is a modulatory system influencing immune cell activity via CB2 receptors and its main ligands 2-AG and AEA. Virtually all immune cells involved in neuroinflammation express CB2 receptors, and existing data from pharmacological and genetic studies clearly suggest an involvement of CB2-mediated signaling in MS and EAE. However, the exact mechanisms by which these signaling pathways act on the disease are not clear.

Thus, this PhD project focuses on the analysis of conditional knockout mice with an immune cell specific deletion of CB2 receptors or the 2-AG-synthesizing enzyme DAGLα in the EAE model of MS. The aim is to identify cellular targets and molecular mechanisms underlying disease development and manifestation.

The ideal candidate should have some knowledge of genetics and immunology and should be familiar with molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA and protein preparation/expression, FACS analysis and histological techniques. Experience in breeding and handling of genetically modified mice as well as in the EAE model of MS would also be useful. Candidates should also have a good command of written and spoken English.

Participation in this project is a chance to gain insight into modern techniques and mechanisms regarding the unique feature of cellular neuroscience and immunology. We offer modern recording equipment, a friendly and motivating lab environment and an enthusiastic and helpful research team.
The PhD position is embedded in the graduate program of the Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation.

The position is available in November and initially funded for 3 years.
Salary will be according to the DFG guidelines. The University of Bonn is an equal opportunities employer. Preference will be given to suitably qualified women or persons with disabilities, all other considerations being equal.
