In the field of  “Quantitative proteomics in epigenetics & RNA biology” the research group of Dr. Falk Butter offers the following computational PhD project:

Omics Data Integration/Systems Biology

High throughput methods in modern biology are generating large scale and more comprehensive data sets. This development has increased the demand for bioinformatics in the life sciences and is changing the way we conduct research from a formerly hypothesis-driven to a much stronger data-driven strategy. Our lab has a strong focus in quantitative proteomics, but we currently regularly use transcriptomics techniques to understand biological systems. While we constantly improve our capacity to analyse proteomics data, in the next step we are aiming to integrate data from multiple omics sources (genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics) providing a systems level perspective.The ideal candidate has either a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences or Bioinformatics with a strong interest to learn and apply bioinformatics skills to the analysis of large scale data sets. Some previous experience with any programming language is expected. Good English communication skills are required to interact within our multi-disciplinary team. The work will include integration and visualization of our own RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CLIP-seq, ribosome profiling and quantitative proteomics data depending on the exact project using R programming and Bioconductor packages. Furthermore, we offer the opportunity to contribute to the scientific community by assisting collaboration partners within the IMB and around the world in data analysis of joint projects for which our group generates quantitative proteomics data.
