PhD position to study the role of cytoskeleton-regulatory proteins in platelet production and function
 
 
2 PhD positions are available at the Department of Experimental Biomedicine, Rudolf Virchow Center/University Hospital Würzburg, to investigate the role of microtubule and actin-regulatory proteins in the process of platelet production and function.
Conditions that cause insufficient platelet formation pose a risk of death due to bleeding complications and are of major clinical significance. A detailed understanding of the underlying cytoskeletal mechanisms involved in platelet production will yield improved therapies for platelet production disorders.
This DFG-funded project will require the use of advanced microscopy techniques, combined with microfluidic systems, cell biology, molecular biology, mouse genetics and retroviral infection.

Candidates with a Masters degree in life sciences and interests in cell biology, molecular biology, time-lapse imaging, mouse in vivo models and different microscopic techniques are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to prove excellent lab skills. Good English skills are essential; knowledge of German is not required.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to enroll in the ‘Graduate School of Life Sciences’ in Würzburg - a highly-regarded international graduate program funded by the German Excellence Initiative (http://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/life_sciences/home/).
The position will start on May 1st, 2015 or later. Salary is based on TV-L (E-13, 65%). Disabled applicants will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification. For these temporary positions part-time work is generally possible.
