for the collaborative PhD project

Functional role of long noncoding RNAs in the regulation of squamous differentiation
in urothelial carcinoma of the bladder and head and neck cancer

 
within the research focus “Epigenetics and non-coding-RNA in cancer gene regulation” of the Düsseldorf School of Oncology. The Düsseldorf School of Oncology (DSO) invites applications for PhD scholarships within the Graduate Training Program in Oncology at the University Cancer Center of the University Hospital Düsseldorf. The project will be coordinated by the Department of Urology (Prof.W. A. Schulz) and Department of Otolaringology (Dr. K. Scheckenbach) at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf.
 
The DSO (http://www.hhu.de/dso/) is a research training program in whichbasic and clinical scientists from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and University Cancer Center work together in multidisciplinary oncological research projects. The primary researchgoals of the DSO groups are to unravel important pathomechanisms involved in majorcancer diseases and to translate these findings into better diagnostic tools and moreeffective therapies. The present call specifically invites applications for the University Cancer Center’s research focus on `Epigenetics and non-coding-RNA in cancer gene regulation ́. The DSO interdisciplinary graduate training program in cancer research offers next to anoutstanding collaborative research environment an excellent qualification program withpractical training and transferable skills courses. In addition, individual mentoring and careerdevelopment possibilities are offered.

We invite applications from highly qualified students with a background in the life sciences (biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, etc.) and a strong interest in basic andtranslational cancer research. Applicants must hold a Master of Science or diploma degree.Scholarships are provided according to the standards of the DFG (German ResearchFoundation) and are available for up to three years. Funding will start in December 2014/January 2015.
