Computational Microbiology/Systems Biology
As part of the excellence cluster “Inf lammation at Interfaces“, the newly established research group “Medical Systems Biology“ at the Institute of Experimental Medicine focuses on the hypothesis-driven analysis of high-throughput experimental data sets in the context of computational microbiology and aging.
The successful applicant (m/f ) will be responsible for the analysis of large-scale microbiome data sets (transcriptomic and genomic) in the context of aging and human diseases. The aim is to identify associated changes in microbiome composition as well as interactions within the microbiome and with the host and relate them to the corresponding phenotype using constraint-based modeling methods.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a background in bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular biology or a related field. The applicant (m/f ) should have excellent programming and bioinformatics skills including experience with the analysis of microarray and genomic NGS data, preferably with a background in metabolism research and/or constraint-based modeling. The candidate (m/f ) will become part of a highly interdisciplinary research group in the excellent research environment at the
University Hospital Kiel where many ground-breaking discoveries relating to the genetics of complex human diseases have been made. Kiel is a vibrant and family-friendly young city with beautiful beaches right at the shores of the Baltic Sea.

The position is available from 1 February 2015 and is limited until October 2017. In case of excellent achievements, further extension is possible. Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L 13 (75 %). Disabled candidates who are equally qualified will be given preference.
