IPK Gatersleben is a large, internationally recognized centre of plant research that addresses problems of modern biology with an emphasis on crop plants. Our scientific expertise integrates a broad diversity of disciplines to elucidate the mechanisms underlying processes of plant development, metabolism, and interactions with the environment. Our research aims at the generation of fundamental knowledge and the development of genetic and biotechnological tools to spur the knowledge-based use of plant-genetic resources to optimize a variety of crop traits. Frequently, this involves co-operation with various national and international universities as well as public-private partnerships.
For the working group of Domestication Genomics we are looking for a
PhD student (f/m)
The position is open immediately and is limited for 36 months.

Your tasks:
You will analyze high-throughput sequencing data of the genomes and transcriptomes of different cultivated and wild accessions of barley and wheat hosted at the IPK genebank to quantify genetic diversity and gene expression and relate them to domestication and adaptation processes. You will implement analysis pipelines tailored to specific research questions, employing the methodology of gene expression analysis, population genetics and genome informatics. You will present your results at conferences and in scientific journals.
Your qualification:
Applicants must hold a Master degree in bioinformatics, biology or related disciplines such as informatics, mathematics, physics or chemistry.  Skills in one of the fields bioinformatics, population genetics or plant science are essential.
