PhD student position in Optogenetics of Synaptic Transmission in Frankfurt, Germany

Diese Stellenanzeige ist abgelaufen. Finden Sie hier zahlreiche ähnliche Jobs.

The Gottschalk lab at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (Goethe University) offers a PhD student position, beginning May 1st, 2015, for a project on identification and analysis of proteins required for recycling of synaptic vesicles and for synaptic homeostasis. The project is funded through the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1080, initially until the end of 2016, to be prolonged along with the new 4-year funding period of the CRC1080.
In the project, all-optical methods are used to screen the genome for genes affecting synaptic vesicle recycling, in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans . These genes, as well as genes already identified in a pilot screen, will be characterized by genetic, optogenetic, behavioral and physiological methods. Furthermore, rapid freeze fixation following optogenetic neuronal stimulation (“flash-and-freeze”) will be used to assay the structural synaptic phenotypes of these mutants, in a time resolved manner, by electron microscopy, in collaboration with a supervisor.
Prerequisite is an MSc or Diploma either in Neurobiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry. We seek for a candidate with a strong background in molecular biology, neurobiology, genetics and fluorescence microscopy. Experience with C. elegans is certainly welcome, but not a must. Information on the lab can be found at
Please send your application electronically (, including a CV, research statement/motivation letter, description of previous experience, certificates and transcripts, as well as names of three references, no later than March 17th, 2015.
