PhD-student position: Switchable fluorescent proteins for super-resolution microscopy

The project will be based at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry in Stefan Jakobs' laboratory in Goettingen. The laboratory is part of the department of Prof. Stefan Hell (Noble Prize in Chemistry 2014 for super-resolution microscopy). The project involves the development, characterization and application of novel (switchable) fluorescent proteins. A major application of these fluorescent proteins is in live-cell RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy. We are among the world-wide leading groups in this field  (see, for example: Chmyrov et al., Nature Methods, 2013; Grotjohann et al., Nature, 2011; Brakemann et al., Nature Biotech, 2011).
You are an ambitious biologist or biochemist who wants to use molecular biology and advanced screening approaches to engineer fluorescent proteins? You are also interested in optics and microscopy? You want to work in a team, supported by experienced PostDocs, but with a lot of freedom for own ideas?
