The „Translational Cancer Research Group“, a junior research group at the Department I of Internal Medicine (Hematology/Oncology), located at the university hospital Cologne, is seeking applications for a
PhD Student
to be employed immediately under a 3 year contract.
Our group is embedded in a highly dynamic research environment on the campus of the university hospital of Cologne, in immediate proximity to the CECAD  (Cologne Cluster of Excellence: Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases) building and the CMMC (Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne), with state-of the-art equipment and the opportunity to access a range of excellent research facilities. Closely cooperating with international, national and local research partners we seek to better understand the molecular biology of cancer with the goal to provide a basis for the development of new treatment strategies for cancer patients.
We employ in vitro models and transgenic mice to analyze networks of cellular signaling and interactions within the tumor microenvironment of solid tumors. For this purpose, we pursue a multi-disciplinary and systems medicine approach. We cooperate with information scientists and pathologists, bringing together i) large datasets of our preclinical models and ii) human datasets from numerous clinically annotated patient samples of the CIO (Center of Integrated Oncology) Biobank in an integrative analysis.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and performing of research projects
  • Biochemical, molecular biological and cell biological tasks
  • Handling and tissue isolation of laboratory mice
Minimum qualifications:
  • Excitement for research
  • Profound understanding of cancer cell biology
  • Solid experience in basic methods of biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology
  • Experience with laboratory mice
  • Good communication skills and the ability for teamwork
Your salary will be based on TV-L (60% E13).
