At the Leibniz ScienceCampus InfectoOptics in Jena infection biologists and photonics scientists work together to develop urgently needed novel optical diagnostic tools for infectious diseases. InfectoOptics combines research in the field of optical high technologies with current topics in infection biology. The InfectoOptics doctoral researchers are integrated into the Jena School for Microbial Communication (www.jsmc.uni-jena.de), a graduate training program funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Research Foundation.

The Leibniz ScienceCampus InfectoOptics now invites applications for a
Doctoral Researcher Position TV-L E13 50% (Ref.No. 09/2015)
to conduct research on the project

Non-linear microscopy of full blood assay

The goal of the BLOODi project is to combat infectious diseases with advanced optical technologies. Imaging of cell migration and cell-cell interactions in whole blood poses an enormous challenge for optical technologies. The PhD project aims for the construction of a multi-focus multi-modal non-linear microscope particularly utilizing the contrast phenomena CARS (coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering) and Two-Photon-Excited Fluorescence (TPEF) for blood monitoring in a microfluidic device to characterize different infection scenarios, different pathogens and different immune responses.
