One Graduate Student Position in Bioeconomy Graduate Program BBW ForWerts

The Bioeconomy Graduate Program BBW ForWerts is currently accepting applications for a position funded by the MWK Baden-Württemberg:

Background

In 2014, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg (MWK-BW) has launched the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg. The ambitious goal of this initiative is to develop an innovative research program which addresses the complex challenges of a sustainable bioeconomy.

In addition, a strong interdisciplinary graduate training program, BBW ForWerts ("Bioökonomie Baden-Württemberg: Erforschung innovativer Wertschöpfungsketten") was integrated into the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg.

The BBW ForWerts Graduate Program coordinates state-of-the-art research activities for the graduate students, which are distributed across different universities and research institutions in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The administration of the graduate program is located at Heidelberg University (coordinator: Prof. Dr. Thomas Rausch).

The funded projects are devided up into the following focus areas:
  • Lignocellulose - Development of an alternative commodity platform for new materials and products
  • Biogas - Sustainable and flexible value chains for biogas in Baden-Württemberg
  • Micro Algae - Integrated use of micro algae for nutrition and feeding stuff industries

For each focus area, several individual thesis research projects have been funded. Doctoral degrees are awarded by the institution where each individual project is based. Additionally, a BBW ForWerts certificate will be issued.

Beside the specific thesis projects taking place at the different institutions in Baden-Württemberg, training of graduate students involves a broad range of skills, allowing successful candidates to later enter professional careers with a broad and solid background knowledge in bioeconomy issues, irrespective of the specialization of the individual research project. Therefore, a strong focus of the graduate program is on interdisciplinary approaches and networking.

BBW ForWerts offers all assets of an excellent graduate program, including
  • supervision of each PhD student via a thesis advisory committee
  • participation in regular interdisciplinary workshops
  • participation in summer schools
  • training courses in specialized methods
  • excursions to industrial partners
  • participation in an international meeting
  • participation in soft skill courses (scientific writing etc.)
