The Albrecht-von-Haller-Institute for Plant Sciences (Research Group Wiermer) searches for a
Ph.D. candidate

This position should be filled as soon as possible and is offered for a period of three years according to pay grade 13 TV-L (65 %).
Your Duties
  • Research on a project within the frame work of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) PRoTECT (
Research in our lab aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate spatial communication between the cytoplasm and the nucleus in plant cellular immunity to pathogenic microbes, using Arabidopsis as model organism. This specific project will employ genetic, cell biological and biochemical approaches to investigate components of the nuclear trafficking machinery and the transport mechanisms that regulate nucleocytoplasmic partitioning of the auto-active immune receptor variant snc1, the wild-type SNC1 protein as well as related plant immune receptors.
The project is integrated in an International Graduate School that comprises research groups from Goettingen and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver/Canada, and will be conducted in collaboration with our Canadian colleagues. Furthermore, the program offers many opportunities for the improvement of scientific and personal skills.
Your Profile

•  highly qualified degree (Master/Diploma) and expertise in the area of Plant Molecular Biology and/or Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions
•  highly motivated and enthusiastic about the research area
•  excellent skills in spoken and written English
•  willingness to spend part of the PhD work at UBC in Vancouver/Canada
