The following position in the Institute for Experimental Cellular Therapy is available starting from November 1, 2016

Ph.D. student
(E13 TV-L / 50 %)

The pay grade classification depends on the personal and collective legal requirements. The Employment is provided for the duration of a third-party funded project from the Deutsche José Carreras Stiftung for a period of 3 years. Extension might be possible in relation to available funding and in accordance with German law regarding the maximum duration of fixed-term positions (Wissensschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). The objective of the position is the obtention of a PhD degree.
 
The project deals with deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying T cell alloreactivity to HLA transplantation antigens relevant to the cure of leukemia by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The main focus of the project will be to investigate the role of single amino acid polymorphism in mismatched HLA-DPB1 alleles for T cell alloreactivity, peptide repertoire and transplantation outcome.
This will be done in close collaboration with the Clinical Department for Stem Cell Transplantation at the University Hospital Essen, one of the largest transplant centers in Europe. Methodology will span a wide range of cutting-edge molecular, cellular and biochemical assays relevant to immunology.
 
The doctorate will have the opportunity of membership and collaboration within the Graduate School of Biomedical Science (BIOME) and thus benefit from its structured Ph.D. lecture and seminar program as well as having interdisciplinary interaction with other graduates within the BIOME network. We are seeking candidates with a Master or Diploma in Biology, Biochemistry or related fields with a strong background in immunology and with a fundamental interest in Biomedical Research.
 
Interviews with short-listed candidates will be held in September 2016. The successful candidate should have good reading, writing and communication skills in English.
