The Institute of Microbiology (Department of Applied and Ecological Microbiology, Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy), Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Jena, Germany)
 is seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate for
1 PhD position (65%)
working on the reaction mechanism of corrinoid-reducing metallo-ATPasesin the group of Prof. Dr. Gabriele Diekert.
 
Start: April 1st, 2016
 
The DFG-funded project will mainly focus on the ATP-dependent activation of protein-bound corrinoid cofactors of O-demethylase enzyme systems of the anaerobe Acetobacterium dehalogenans.
 
We offer research laboratories with special equipment for working with anaerobes, an intensive initial training, an efficient supervision, and a strong communication and interaction between the involved institutions. The Graduate Academy of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena offers courses in state-of-the-art technologies and soft skills and acts as service and information desk for doctoral candidates.
 
Applicants need an M.Sc. or Diploma in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or similar and should be highly motivated to work in basic research. Knowledge in the field of microbiology as well as a good background in standard molecular biological methods is expected. Experience in handling proteins is desirable but not strictly required.
 
The position is limited to 3 years. Remuneration is based on terms of the collective agreement for employees of public service (“Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (TV-L)”). Depending on personal qualifications, the applicant can receive a maximum salary according to payment group E13 TV-L.
