PhD position - Autoimmune liver inflammation

 Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf  Hamburg
We offer a PhD student position within the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group 306 “Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis”:

Role of Dendritic Cells in the pathogenesis of PSC
Salary according to TV-KAH E13 (65 %)

The liver has a unique capability to induce immune tolerance to hepatic antigens; however, owing to yet unclear conditions, hepatic tolerance can be broken, enabling the development of severe autoimmune diseases. Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis  (PSC) is a severe autoimmune disease affecting the bile ducts. The offered position will investigate the immunological pathogenesis of the disease aiming at translation into improved treatment strategies.

This project addresses the hypothesis that DCs are major drivers of PSC pathogenesis. You will analyse the disease-modulating function of DCs in PSC mouse models, investigate the relative role of distinct DC subpopulations, and identify diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

We offer participation in the integrated graduate school of our research centre providing an extensive qualification and mentoring scheme.

Applicants should hold a diploma or master degree in biology or related life sciences. Documented interest, skills and experience in immunology are welcome.

Applications should be send until march 7, 2016 and include a c.v., academic certificates, references, and a short personal statement outlining your suitability and motivation for the study, and your research experience to date.
